[Watch] Sarfaraz Khan perishes for 150 after attempting a big shot during 1st IND vs NZ 2024 Test

Team India batter Sarfaraz Khan's brilliant knock in the first Test against New Zealand came to an end right after he reached the 150-run mark on Day 4. Veteran seamer Tim Southee made the breakthrough to dismiss the right-hander at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, October 19.

Sarfaraz recorded his maiden ton in India's rescue act in the second innings after being bundled out for 46 on Day 2 after the first day of the Test was washed out due to rain. He was involved in a mammoth partnership with Rishabh Pant, that helped the hosts wipe off the deficit, and start to amass a lead.

Even after reaching the three-figure mark out of the way, Sarfaraz continued to bat with intent despite struggling a bit against the second new ball, with Pant matching the intensity from the other end. After reaching 150, Sarfaraz aimed to keep the onslaught going, and attempted a lavish shot over covers off Tim Southee.

However, he could not get the desired elevation as the bat twisted in his hands. The ball ended up splicing towards Ajaz Patel at cover who completed an easy catch to end a memorable knock.

Have a look at the dismissal right here:

Sarfaraz Khan's 150 came off 195 deliveries at a strike rate of 76.92, and his knock included 18 fours and three sixes.

As of writing, India are placed at 426-/ after 87 overs, with Rishabh Pant batting on 97. The hosts have extended their lead to 70 runs, and have the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in the dugout remaining to bat.
