[Watch] Sarfaraz Khan and Virat Kohli convince Rohit Sharma to take successful DRS against in 2nd IND vs NZ 2024 Test

Sarfaraz Khan and Virat Kohli earned India the important wicket of No. 3 batter Will Young against New Zealand in Pune on Thursday, October 24, despite not being involved in the ball or the catch. The incident happened on the last ball of the 24th over.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made Young play a flick on a turning ball down the leg but the batter seemed to have missed it as it went to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant's gloves. Ashwin made a polite inquiry to the umpire but he immediately gave it not-out.

However, Sarfaraz at short-leg was convinced he had heard something and ran to skipper Rohit Sharma, apparently taking responsibility and asking him to review it. Kohli also came running in and seemed to be pushing for the same and Rohit took the review with five seconds left. It turned out to be successful, with UltraEdge showing a tiny spike when the ball went close to Young's glove.

The wicket reduced New Zealand to 76/2 and proved to be the difference between the visitors winning the first session and India knowing they shared it. It was a much-needed morale boost, especially after losing the first Test.

India hoping for more heroics after Ashwin, Sarfaraz, and Kohli's excellence

New Zealand went to lunch at 92/2, still a pretty decent score for the first session of a Test in India. The wicket didn't have a lot of demons in it, apart from the occasional ball that turned and bounced sharply from the early rough.

Still, New Zealand looked in a good position to put up a big first-inning score and drive the Test as the pitch looked set to progressively take more spin. India would need a lot more wickets and continued fielding excellence to have a chance of making a dominating comeback.
