India on top at stumps on Day 3 in the first Test against Bangladesh
India commenced Day 3 on a high note, with Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill finding their rhythm at the crease. The pair amassed 124 runs in 28 overs during the first session. In the second session, both players achieved their centuries, with Pant scoring 109 off 128 balls, featuring 13 fours and four sixes.
Gill finished unbeaten on 119 from 176 deliveries, hitting 10 fours and four sixes as the hosts declared their second innings at 287/4, setting a target of 515 runs for Bangladesh.
In response, Bangladesh openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam built a 62-run partnership before Jasprit Bumrah claimed the former’s wicket for 33 runs. Shortly after, Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Islam for 35, marking his first wicket of the match.
The off-spinner went on to take additional wickets, removing Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim. The day was called off early due to bad light, with the visitors at 158/4 after 37.2 overs, still needing 357 runs to win, as Najmul Hossain Shanto (51) and Shakib Al Hasan (5) remained at the crease.
