[Watch] Scott Edwards plays a stunning reverse scoop for six off Anrich Nortje in SA vs NED T20 World Cup 2024 match
Netherlands captain Scott Edwards played a cheeky shot for a six in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 match against South Africa at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York on Saturday (June 8). The right-hander played a stunning reverse scoop off speedster Anrich Nortje's bowling, thereby depositing it for a maximum.
The incident occurred in the 12th over of the innings as Aiden Markram threw the ball to Nortje for his third over. Edwards had changed his position quite early and the pace from the 30-year-old ensured that the ball carried comfortably over the fence.

Despite that six, the Proteas held an upper hand over the Dutch significantly. The pacers sent back the top five cheaply, with only Vikramjit Singh and Sybrand Engelbrecht managing to reach double figures. Marco Jansen nipped out Michael Levitt and Singh, while Ottniel Baartman and Nortje dismissed Max O'Dowd and Bas de Leede, respectively.
Scott Edwards run out by his opposite number in the very next delivery
However, the Dutch captain couldn't go on for long as Markram found him short at the non-striker's end when Edwards nudged to mid-on and ran swiftly for a single. The 27-year-old had to walk back for 10 off nine deliveries. It was Markram who won the toss and opted to field first, marshalling his troops effectively.
The Netherlands had notably tripped the Proteas in the last two ICC events and seemingly walked in with some psychological edge heading into the clash on Saturday. Both sides have also opened their campaign with a win.
South Africa beat Sri Lanka by six wickets as Nortje emerged as the chief destroyer to bowl the Island nation out for 77. The Netherlands overcame Nepal in their opening match in what proved to be a thriller. As far as the ongoing game goes, the Dutch will be targeting at least a score of 120 to challenge South Africa.
