[Watch] Sensational catch from Prabhsimran Singh ends Suryakumar Yadav's brilliant knock during PBKS vs MI IPL 2024 match
Mumbai Indians (MI) star batter Suryakumar Yadav had to walk back to the pavilion after a sensational innings of 78(53) against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Thursday, thanks to a brilliant piece of fielding by Prabhsimran Singh.
Punjab skipper Sam Curran had the field set for a wide yorker and he delivered exactly that to SKY, who was looking to up the ante towards the backend of the innings. While the right-hander managed to get some bat on it, he only managed to lob it in the air towards point.
Prabhsimran Singh was stationed at short point and timed his jump to perfection to take a fine catch.
Here's a video of Suryakumar Yadav's dismissal:
Suryakumar's reaction said it all as it probably could have been a boundary had the ball evaded Prabhsimran's leap. His wicket arguably made a difference of about 10-15 runs to Mumbai Indians' final total.
Suryakumar Yadav's innings helps MI post 192/7
It wasn't one of those classic Suryakumar Yadav blitzes as the pitch seemed to be a bit two-paced. The PBKS bowlers were getting their slower balls and cutters to grip into the surface and that made hitting that much more difficult for the Mumbai batters.
While the likes of Rohit Sharma (36) and Tilak Varma (34*) played handy cameos, they really needed a batter to bat deep and be that fulcrum. SKY showed that he could play that role too when needed.
Suryakumar played his shots whenever Rohit struggled at the other end and also went back to consolidating when his partnership with Tilak was in its early stage. The star batter has told the host broadcaster that 192/7 could be an above-par total if there's no dew.
However, MI will need to bowl better than they have throughout the season so far to defend the target and get the much-needed two points.
