[Watch] Seshnie Naidu grabs a one-handed stunner on debut to Muneeba Ali back to the dressing room in SA-W vs PAK-W 1st T20I 2024
Seshnie Naidu earned everyone's attention by grabbing a stunning catch in the first T20I between South Africa Women and Pakistan Women in Multan on Monday, September 16.
The three-match T20I series between South Africa Women and Pakistan Women kicked off at the Multan Cricket Stadium today, where the visitors registered a 10-run victory. Leg-spinner Seshnie Naidu made her T20I debut in this game.
The 18-year-old bowled an impressive spell of 1/25, dismissing Pakistan's number five batter Sadaf Shamas. Before that, Naidu completed one of the best catches in women's T20I history to send Pakistan opener Muneeba Ali back to the dressing room.
On the final ball of the fifth over in Pakistan's innings, Muneeba Ali to clear the fine leg fielder inside the circle with a flick shot off Tumi Sekhukhune's bowling. It looked like the ball would clear the 30-yard circle. However, Naidu executed a perfect dive and timed the one-handed attempt brilliantly to take the catch.
Seshnie Naidu will play for South Africa Women in the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup 2024
Naidu had zero experience of playing international cricket at the senior level prior to this Pakistan tour. Despite this, the Cricket South Africa selection committee have named her in their Women's T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Naidu was quite impressive with the ball in the Women's African Games played earlier this year in Accra.
Besides, the leg-spinner also did a decent job for the Dolphins in domestic cricket. Considering the unique skill that Naidu brings to the table, the South African women's team coach Dillon du Preez has high hopes for her.
South Africa will still play two T20Is against Pakistan in this series. Naidu has already opened her account with the ball. It will be interesting to see if she can take more wickets in this series before the mega event.
