Welsh Fire Women pacer Shabnim Ismail took a brilliant catch to dismiss Southern Brave Women player Lauren Bell in the 30th match of The Hundred Women’s Competition 2024 on Wednesday, August 14. The game is being played at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

The dismissal took place on the last ball of the Southern Brave’s innings. Freya Davies bowled a full ball outside off-stump, which Lauren Bell smashed hard but was caught at mid-off. Shabnim Ismail, who was standing at the edge of the circle, timed her jump to perfection to complete a brilliant catch.

Here’s a video of the dismissal:

Lauren Bell scored a run-a-ball three as the Southern Brave got bowled out on 103 on the last ball of their innings. Meanwhile, Freya Davies took two wickets in her spell of 20 balls and conceded only 14 runs.

Hayley Matthews stars with the ball for Welsh Fire

Welsh Fire captain Tammy Beaumont won the toss and chose to ball first. Hayley Matthews provided an early breakthrough as she dismissed Danielle Wyatt for two. Soon after, Shabnim Ismail got rid of Smriti Mandhana to put Southern Brave in a spot of bother.

Jess Jonassen also made an instant impact by dismissing opponent team captain Georgia Adams. Matthews and Jonassen were brilliant in the middle overs, as they didn’t let the Southern Brave Women stitch a decent partnership.

Chloe Tryon was the lone fighter; she scored 55 off 38 balls. The right-handed batter smashed seven boundaries and one six as the Southern Brave scored 103 in their allotted 100 balls.

Hayley Matthews was the pick of the bowlers for Welsh Fire, taking four wickets for 14. Meanwhile, Jess Jonassen bagged three.

In response, at the time of writing, Welsh Fire were 42/1 after 30 balls. They need 62 runs in 70 balls, with Hayley Matthews and Tammy Beaumont at the crease.
