[Watch] Shadab Khan takes a sensational catch at backward point in LPL 2024

Pakistani player Shadab Khan took a blinder at backward point in a Lanka Premier League (LPL) game on Thursday, July 18. The Eliminator game pitted the Colombo Strikers against the Kandy Falcons at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Chasing a target of 160, the Kandy Falcons were 79/5 after 10 overs. Matheesha Pathirana came to bowl the 11th and got the wicket of Chaturanga de Silva on the second ball.

The left-handed batter made room for himself and punched the ball. Shadab Khan flew to his left to take a sensational catch with both hands. Chaturanga was dismissed for nine off eight balls, as his wicket left the side reeling at 83/6 after 10.2 overs.

Then, Kamindu Mendis (54 off 36 balls) stitched together a 69-run partnership off 40 balls for the seventh wicket with Dasun Shanaka (39 off 21 balls), as the Kandy Falcons became favorites to win the game.

Ramesh Mendis scored the winning runs for Kandy, as they won the match by two wickets with eight balls remaining.


Sadeera Samarawickrama’s half-century goes in vain for the Colombo Strikers

After being asked to bat first, the Colombo Strikers didn’t start well as they lost three wickets within the powerplay. Sadeera Samarawickrama, played a brilliant hand of 62 runs off 45 balls for the Strikers; he hit seven boundaries in his inning. He was well supported by Dunith Wellalage (28 off 21 balls), as Colombo finished 159/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

The Strikers were looking good in the game when the Kandy Falcons were 83/6 after 10.2 overs, but a brilliant partnership between Kamindu Mendis and Dasun Shanaka changed the complexion of the game.

Binura Fernando and Matheesha Pathirana took three wickets each, but they ended up on the losing side as Kindy won the game by two wickets.

The Kandy Falcons will now face the Jaffna Kings in Qualifier 2 of the Lanka Premier League on Saturday, July 20.
