[Watch] Shakib Al Hasan departs for a duck after a soft dismissal by Ravindra Jadeja in IND vs BAN 2024 2nd TestÂ
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was dismissed for a duck in what could be his final Test innings during the series finale against India at Green Park in Kanpur. Shakib's stay at the crease lasted only two deliveries as Bangladesh continued to implode in the first session of Day 5 on Tuesday, October 1.
The veteran, who announced his intention to bow out of Tests and T20Is, came into bat after Litton Das' dismissal in the 30th over. Surprisingly placed at No. 8 in the batting order, Shakib had the task of pulling out a rescue job with fellow veteran Mushfiqur Rahim at the other hand.
However, the left-handed batter ended up handing a simple catch to Jadeja off his own bowling. He tried to nudge a slower, fullish delivery but was caught on the push and ended up chipping the ball back to the bowler.
Have a look at the dismissal right here:
Shakib has expressed his desire to retire from Tests on home soil during the upcoming series against South Africa. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has stated that they cannot assure security due to the ongoing political tensions in the subcontinent nation.
Bangladesh collapsed from 91-3 to 94-7 in the blink of an eye, with Jadeja responsible for three of those wickets. The visitors had managed to frustrate India with a promising partnership between skipper Najmul Shanto and Shadman Islam, but once the stand was broken, wickets started falling in a heap.
Mehidy and Rahim are Bangladesh's final hopes after Shakib's departure
Shakib Al Hasan was also not among the runs in the first innings, dismissed for 9 following a stunning catch by Mohammed Siraj.
Bangladesh are now on thin ice following the veteran all-rounder's dismissal, hardly boasting a commanding lead with more than two sessions left to play. As of writing, Bangladesh have pushed to 118-7 after 36 overs, with the duo of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim trying to build the meager lead slowly.
