[Watch] "She kept complaining that I didn't see her on the first day"- Ravichandran Ashwin shares wife's complaints post IND-BAN 1st Test 2024

Team India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin shared that his wife Prithi Narayanan kept complaining that he didn't see her in the stands of the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai during the opening day of the first Bangladesh Test. Ashwin, his wife, and two daughters were engaged in a heartwarming interaction following India's thumping win over Bangladesh.

Ashwin was the star of the show with a century in the first innings and a five-wicket haul in the second as India completed a 280-run victory.

In a video shared by the BCCI X handle, Prithi asked:

"Kids want to know what would you give them on Daughter's day?"

To which Ashwin responded:

"I would give them the ball I picked up a fifer with."

Here is the video of the heartwarming interaction in its entirety:

When asked about his incredible all-round performance on his home ground in Chennai, Ashwin said:

"I don't know how to react because the first day was something that happened really quickly. I didn't expect to walk in to bat here and get a hundred. I hadn't batted in a while. It feels great. Every time I come here it feels special. I don't know there is some energy in his ground that keeps me going."

Prithi then cheekily asked if her presence in the stands added any extra energy for Ashwin to which the all-rounder jokingly answered:

"She kept complaining that I didn't see her on the first day. I didn't. For me, It's very difficult for me to look out for the family when I am playing. In the middle of the game, but I do make a conscious effort because the children are always asking me, 'Why didn't you say hi'."

However, at the end of the video, Ashwin thanked his wife and daughters for being there and bringing him good luck.

During his memorable outing, the 38-year-old broke several records, including drawing level with Shane Warne for the most five-wicket hauls in an innings with 37.

"Constantly people have doubted if I could deliver in red-ball as I came from IPL" - Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin admitted he was doubted by many people in Tests early in his career, considering his arrival on the big stage was through the IPL.

The champion off-spinner overtook former West Indies pacer Courtney Walsh on the all-time Test wicket-taking charts with his six wickets in the second innings.

In a chat with the broadcasters at the end of the first Bangladesh Test, Ashwin said:

"I can't really comment on what sort of impact I have had on this Test match. I had huge shoes to fill, I came in to replace Harbhajan, I used to replicate his action in junior cricket, he was an inspiration to me. Constantly people have doubted if I could deliver in red-ball as I came from IPL, lots of people have come and helped me."

Ashwin is currently eighth all-time with 522 Test wickets at an average of 23.70 in 101 matches.
