[Watch] Shikhar Dhawan checks on fan hit by a ball during BCL 2024 2nd semifinal in Surat

Retired Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan displayed a heartwarming gesture towards a fan who was hit by a ball during the semi-final fixture of the Big Cricket League on Saturday in Surat. In a video that surfaced on Instagram, the veteran batter was seen speaking to the young fan, who was sitting in the top tier.

The incident occurred as a right-handed batter lofted the ball for a massive six over wide long-on. After the ball hit the fan, the opener spoke to some of the volunteers in the ground and requested to meet the boy. Dhawan threw a bottle of water for the fan and spoke to him to ensure he was feeling okay.

The 39-year-old, meanwhile, failed to trouble the scorers in the semi-final clash while plying his trade for the Northern Challengers against the Southern Spartans. However, the Challengers still reached an imposing total of 218 as Samiullah Shinwari (95), Upul Tharanga (46) and Gurkeerat Singh Mann (43) came up with the goods.

Shikhar Dhawan retired from the international arena in August, having played his last match for the national team in 2022. The left-hander lost his place in the side due to a consistent run of poor scores.

Overall, he featured in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is and played an integral role in Team India's Champions Trophy victory in 2013. He finished as the leading run-getter in the series, with 363 runs in five innings at an average of 90.75.

Dhawan also played in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) recently.
