[Watch] Shikhar Dhawan smashes 49-ball 100 in BCL 2024

Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan was in exceptional form, smashing a brilliant century while leading Northern Challengers against UP Brij Stars in Match 10 of the Big Cricket League (BCL) 2024. The game is being played at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium, Vesu, Surat.

The Challengers won the toss and chose to bat. Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Samiullah Shinwari came out firing, putting on 69 runs in the first six overs. Dhawan brought up his fifty off 28 balls, while Shinwari reached his half-century in 23 balls.

On the first delivery of the 14th over, Dhawan took a double to bring up his maiden century in the Big Cricket League, accomplishing the feat in just 49 balls.

The southpaw blasted 119 off 63 balls, hitting 14 fours and five sixes, as he and Shinwari put together an explosive opening partnership of 207 runs in just 98 balls. The Afghanistan batter, Shinwari, was equally impressive, bringing up his century with a six off just 43 balls.

Shinwari remained unbeaten on 111 off 46 balls, including seven fours and 11 sixes. Meanwhile, Gurkeerat Singh Mann played a quickfire cameo, scoring 31 off 10 balls. The Challengers finished with a total of 271/2 in their 20 overs, setting the highest score in BCL history.


Hamilton Masakadza and Chirag Gandhi score fifties for UP Brij Stars

Chasing a target of 272 runs, UP Brij Stars lost their opener, Apoorva Mehrotra, for seven runs. However, his opening partner, Hamilton Masakadza, was in outstanding form, reaching his fifty off just 23 balls. The former Zimbabwe batter finished with 72 runs off 35 balls, including nine boundaries and five sixes.

Chirag Gandhi and Asghar Afghan (41 off 26 balls) then formed an impressive partnership of 98 runs off 51 balls for the third wicket. Gandhi played a brilliant innings of 62 off 34 balls, hitting three boundaries and five sixes.

At the time of writing, Brij Stars were 204/4 after 18 overs, with Raahat Agarwal (6) and Narendra Meena (11) at the crease.
