[Watch] Shivam Dube traps Kusal Mendis in front to pick up maiden ODI wicket during India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI

All-rounder Shivam Dube picked up his maiden ODI wicket for India during the ongoing first ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Friday, August 1. He dismissed Kusal Mendis for 14 (31).

The conditions were favorable for seam bowlers and Dube got enough movement to beat Mendis' defense. The ball pitched on a good length and straightened to hit Mendis on his back pad.

Although Kusal Mendis went for a review, the replays showed three reds and he had to make his walk back to the pavilion.

The partnership between Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis was starting to look threatening after Sri Lanka lost an early wicket and thus Mendis' dismissal was timely.

Shivam Dube's breakthrough puts India in control

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first, expecting the pitch to get slower as the game progressed. However, the overcast conditions meant that Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh got enough help to work with upfront.

Avishka Fernando tried to flick a Siraj delivery outside off-stump and the leading edge was caught comfortably by Arshdeep Singh at third man. Kusal Mendis then got together with Pathum Nissanka and the duo began to consolidate Sri Lanka's innings.

The duo saw off the opening spell of Siraj and Arshdeep and it seemed like they would get in a position to press the foot on the accelerator and dictate terms to the visitors. However, Rohit Sharma's bowling change worked as Shivam Dube trapped Mendis in front for the Lankans to lose their second wicket.

Sadeera Samarawickrama has walked out to bat at No. 4 and Sri Lanka will probably need to consolidate once again before looking to change gears. At the time of writing, they have scored 60 runs at the end of 18 overs with Nissanka well set on 32.
