[Watch] Shoaib Bashir knocks over Prabath Jayasuriya with a ripper in ENG vs SL 2024 2nd Test

England spinner Shoaib Bashir managed to prize out the wicket of Prabath Jayasuriya with a ripper on Day 2 of the second Test against Sri Lanka on Friday, August 30. The match is being played at Lord's Cricket Ground, London.

The dismissal occurred on the last ball of the 44th over. Bashir was closing his 4th over of the spell and managed to pitch that one in the right area. Prabath came down the track looking to go over the bowler's head, but the ball turned back in sharply and took the stumps along with it.

Prabath Jayasuriya played a perfect second fiddle and stitched a 35-run partnership with Kamindu Mendis. He was dismissed for 8 off 46 as Sri Lanka found themselves at 153/8 after 44 overs.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Sri Lankan bowlers were made to bowl for four sessions as England put on a first-innings total of 427. Joe Root (143 off 206) and Gus Atkinson (118 off 115) were the stars with the bat as they registered their names yet again on the Lord's honours board. Atkinson also became the fastest Englishman to have his name etched on the bowling and batting honours board, doing so in four innings.

Sri Lanka had a torrid start with the bat in hand as early wickets were the order of the day for them yet again. Nishan Madushka, Dimuth Karunaratne, and Pathum Nissanka were dismissed cheaply and the middle order of Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Dinesh Chandimal failed to make an impact as well. Milan Rathnayake, who registered 72 in the first innings in the last Test, was also dismissed cheaply.

At the moment, Lahiru Kumara and Kamindu Mendis are out in the middle for the visitors. Sri Lanka are on 159/8 after 49 overs and need 69 runs to avoid the follow-on.
