A video of footwear scattered along Marine Drive in Mumbai after the victory parade of the Indian cricket team that won the 2024 T20 World Cup has gone viral on social media. According to some reports, it took quite a few hours for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to clean the area after the massive celebrations on Thursday, July 4.
The victory parade, which was organized by the BCCI at the iconic Marine Drive, saw a sea of people from the city making their presence felt, making the event a grand success. A felicitation ceremony was also organized at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in front of a jam-packed audience.
While both the victory parade and the felicitation ceremony saw a large attendance, post the celebrations a clip went viral on social media in which footwears were seen scattered along Marine Drive. As per a report by the news agency IANS, thousands of fans had to walk back barefoot after losing their footwear in all the commotion that occurred during the victory parade.
"After greeting Team India, clicking photos and selfies, thousands who were present at Marine Drive for the open bus victory parade prepared to go back home but discovered that they had lost their footwear in the melee," the report stated.
Several pictures and videos from the victory parade and the felicitation ceremony went viral on social media, with both the players and the fans enjoying themselves.
Some fans claimed mismanagement during the victory parade in Marine Drive
The majority of Indian fans were ecstatic over the team's T20 World Cup win and even braved the rains to salute the nation's cricketing heroes. A few, however, complained of mismanagement due to the large gathering at Marine Drive.
According to a report in ANI, one fan who lost consciousness during the proceedings blamed the Mumbai Police for not managing the situation effectively:
“The crowd was increasing. I fell and got choked. I became unconscious. I was taken to the nearby hospital, where I received treatment. I feel fine now. The crowd was more than necessary. There was mismanagement. The police were also not alert," the fan told the news agency.
There were many memorable moments during the victory parade and the felicitation ceremony. The players were seen having a great time interacting with the large gathering. One of the crazy fans even climbed a tree to get a close look at the world champions.
