[Watch] Shreyas Iyer gets out to a short ball in Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament 2024
Team India's Shreyas Iyer played for Mumbai in the team's recently concluded match of the ongoing Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) XI. However, the right-handed batter failed to make a significant impact with the bat in the contest, registering scores of 2 and 22.
Iyer's dismissal in the fourth innings attracted a lot of attention as the 29-year-old perished to a short-pitched delivery, which has been his Achilles heel across formats. Bowling from around the wicket, pacer Achyuth C V bowled a short ball on the leg stump.
The Mumbai batter took the bait, going for a pull shot. However, he failed to keep the ball down and was caught by Ajith Ram S. You can watch the video of Shreyas Iyer's dismissal below:
Tamil Nadu completed a comprehensive 286-run win over Mumbai to qualify for the semifinals. Despite having India capped players like Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Sarfaraz Khan, Mumbai went down without a fight, getting bowled out for 156 and 223.
Shreyas Iyer mimicked Sunil Narine's bowling action in the Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament match against TNCA XI
Shreyas Iyer bowled one over in the first innings of Mumbai's Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament fixture against TNCA XI. He went wicketless and conceded seven runs from the over.
Interestingly, he copied his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) teammate Sunil Narine's bowling action. It is worth mentioning that Narine played under Iyer's captaincy in this year's Indian Premier League (IPL), where the Kolkata-based side clinched their third title.
Here's the video of Iyer's over:
While Iyer failed to deliver in the Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament, he still has a chance of regaining his red-ball mojo. He will partake in the upcoming 17th edition of the Duleep Trophy, beginning September 5.
Iyer has been named as the captain of Team D for the domestic tournament. The side features the likes of Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh and Tushar Deshpande.
