[Watch] Shreyas Iyer hits the nets ahead of IND vs SL 1st ODI

Team India batter Shreyas Iyer was seen sweating it out in the nets ahead of the side's upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. India completed a 3-0 whitewash over Sri Lanka in the recently concluded T20I series. However, Iyer was not part of the squad for the 20-over fixtures.

Iyer last played for India during the Men in Blue's five-match home Test series against England earlier this year. He amassed 104 runs across four innings before. The right-handed batter was not named in the lineup for the remaining three Tests.

Gearing up for his return to international cricket, Iyer was seen batting against some net bowlers in Colombo. One of Iyer's fans shared a video on the microblogging platform X, giving a glimpse of the 29-year-old's practice session.

A couple of pictures also surfaced on social media, in which Iyer can be seen having a discussion with Team India skipper Rohit Sharma. The two seemed to be chatting about playing the pull shot.

Shreyas Iyer was one of India's standout batting performers at the 2023 ODI World Cup, chalking up 530 runs from 11 outings at an average of 75.33. He also featured in the ODI series opener against South Africa in December 2023, where he scored 52 runs off 45 balls.

Shreyas Iyer and Gautam Gambhir set to reunite after a successful IPL 2024 partnership for KKR

Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged as the champions of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). The side beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in a one-sided final to clinch their third title.

Gautam Gambhir was the mentor of the KKR team in their title-winning campaign. Following the season, he was named as Team India's new head coach, taking over from Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ended with India's 2024 T20 World Cup triumph.

Iyer and Gambhir are set to work together again, this time on the international stage. The first ODI of the series between India and Sri Lanka will be played at R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday, April 2.
