[Watch] Shreyas Iyer, MS Dhoni, KL Rahul attend Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant sangeet ceremony in Mumbai
Several big stars from the Indian cricketing fraternity, including MS Dhoni, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul attended the sangeet ceremony of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant in Mumbai on Friday, July 5. The star-studded ceremony was held at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre.
Apart from Dhoni, Shreyas, and Rahul, India's 2024 T20 World Cup stars Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya also graced the function with their presence. Former India pacer Zaheer Khan, who is associated with Ambani's IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI), also attended the sangeet ceremony.
While Dhoni, Rahul, Suryakumar, and Zaheer were present at the function with their respective better halves, Pandya was seen attending the event with his brother Krunal and keeper-batter Ishan Kishan.
Among Bollywood celebrities, Madhuri Dixit, Ananya Panday, Salman Khan, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Ranbir Kapoor, among many others, were spotted at the sangeet ceremony.
The grand wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant is set to take place on July 12.
Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan were not part of India's 2024 T20 World Cup squad
Shreyas, Rahul, and Kishan were not part of Team India's 2024 T20 World Cup squad. India preferred the likes of Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of the trio. Rahul and Kishan's selection became extremely difficult after Rishabh Pant proved his form and fitness in the Indian Premier League 2024.
The selectors' choices were vindicated as the Men in Blue went on to clinch the 2024 T20 World Cup that recently concluded in the West Indies and the United States. Team India became the first team to win the ICC event without losing a single match. After impressing in the group stage and the Super 8 round, they beat England in the second semifinal before defeating South Africa in the final.
There was no place for Shreyas, Rahul, and Kishan in the T20I squad for the tour against Zimbabwe as well, which begins with the first match in Harare on July 6. Young opener Shubman Gill has been named captain for the five-match series. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar and Tushar Deshpande have been picked for the series.
Shreyas has played 51 T20Is for India, scoring 1104 runs at a strike rate of 136.12. Rahul has 2265 runs from 72 T20Is at a strike rate of 139.12, while Kishan has 796 runs from 32 games at a strike rate of 124.37.
