[Watch] Shreyas Iyer reaches fifty with a boundary during the MUM vs ROI Irani Cup 2024 game

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer displayed his talent by scoring a superb half-century for Mumbai in the Irani Cup 2024 match against the Rest of India (ROI) on Day 1, Tuesday, October 1. The game is being played at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Coming in to bat at number 5 with Mumbai struggling at 37/3 in 11.1 overs, Shreyas Iyer displayed great resilience alongside captain Ajinkya Rahane. He reached his fifty on the fourth ball of the 37th over.

Prasidh Krishna delivered a half-volley outside off, and Iyer went for a drive. The ball edged over the slip cordon and raced to the boundary, bringing the 29-year-old his fifty off 80 balls.

Iyer scored 57 runs off 84 balls, featuring six boundaries and two sixes, before being dismissed by Yash Dayal.


Fifties from Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer help Mumbai fight back after early setbacks

Rest of India captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and chose to bowl first after the game was delayed due to a wet outfield. Mukesh Kumar was outstanding, providing an early breakthrough for ROI. Devdutt Padikkal took a stunning catch in the slips to dismiss Prithvi Shaw for four runs off seven balls in the third over.

In the same over, the right-arm pacer dismissed Hardik Tamore, who went without scoring. Ayush Mhatre became Mukesh’s third victim, scoring 19 runs off 35 balls as Mumbai found themselves at 37/3.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer excelled, forming a crucial partnership of 102 runs off 170 balls for the fourth wicket before the latter was dismissed by Yash Dayal for a well-crafted 57.

At the time of writing, Mumbai were at 161/4 after 48 overs, with Rahane (58) and Sarfaraz Khan (16) at the crease. Mukesh Kumar has been the standout bowler for ROI, taking three wickets.
