[Watch] Shubman Gill shouts f*** off after his drive finds a fielder during BGT 2024-25 2nd Test
Returning for the second Test between Australia and India, Shubman Gill walked into bat earlier than he would have expected with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal being dismissed for naught on the very first delivery he faced.
Gill started on a decent note after India lost an early wicket. With a mix of caution and intent, the right-hander managed to get a few boundaries away and keep the scoreboard ticking.
While Test cricket is known to be a game of patience, players have often been seen losing their cool and so did Gill for a brief moment. The incident occurred on the final delivery of the 14th over.
Australia's Scott Boland bowled a delivery outside the off stump which Shubman Gill tried to drive past covers. However, the ball went to Nathan Lyon who did well to stop the same by moving to his right and was hence cut off.
Shubman Gill was visibly upset and frustrated as Lyon cut the ball off and his drive did not make it past the covers. Gill was caught venting his frustration by screaming 'f*** off', who would also have been upset with himself for not being able to pierce the gap and find the boundary. He was batting on 25 off 41 balls at the time.
Shubman Gill fails to convert start in first innings of second BGT 2024-25 Test
The pressure was high on Shubman Gill to perform as he returned to the side for the second BGT 2024-25 Test. With Jaiswal gone early and KL Rahul also being dismissed after being lucky early on, Gill was expected to bat for long after getting off to a decent start.
The right-hander showed positive intent, scoring five boundaries in his innings despite the Australian bowlers being on top of their game. The 25-year-old got to 31 runs off 51 deliveries with five boundaries and a strike-rate of 60.78 before falling prey in the 22nd over.
He was sent back by Scott Boland, who trapped him plumb in front on the first delivery of the 22nd over. It was a poor shot from Gill as he failed to convert his start into a big score when the situation demanded it. India lost four wickets in the first session with the hosts dominating the proceedings on the opening day of the Adelaide Test.
