India A captain Shubman Gill took a stunning catch to dismiss Rishabh Pant early in the Duleep Trophy match against India B at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Day 1 (Thursday, September 5). As a result, Pant departed for just seven runs off 10 deliveries.

The dismissal came in the 36th over India B’s first innings. Akash Deep bowled a full-length delivery and Pant went for a straight shot over the bowler’s head. Rishabh Pant will be keen to make amends in his upcoming innings ahead of Team India comeback in Tests. The wicketkeeper-batter has not played any Test matches since his car accident in December 2022. The southpaw made his national comeback after returning from injury at the 2024 T20 World Cup following a promising season with Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In red-ball cricket, Pant has 2271 runs in 33 Tests, including five tons and 11 half-centuries. Overall, the 26-year-old has 4123 runs in first-class cricket, comprising 10 centuries and 19 fifties.

Pant is key to India’s success in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and especially in Australia (Border-Gavaskar Trophy) later this year.
