[Watch] Smriti Mandhana cleaned up by Ashleigh Gardner for 105 in IND-W vs AUS-W 3rd ODI

Smriti Mandhana starred with the bat, scoring a magnificent century in the third ODI between India and Australia before falling prey to her nemesis Ashleigh Gardner at the WACA in Perth on Wednesday, December 11. The left-handed batter departed for 105 runs off 109 balls, including one six and 14 boundaries while chasing. This was the fifth time that Gardner dismissed Mandhana.

The dismissal came in the 36th over of India’s chase. Gardner went around the wicket after being hit for a boundary off the previous delivery. The ball drifted back in and skidded through as Mandhana played for the turn but got beaten in the air. The ball beat her bat and pad gap to crash into the stumps.

Australian broadcaster 7 Cricket uploaded the dismissal on X with the caption:

“BIG big wicket! Gardner gets the centurion Smriti, India four down with 110 to get.”

With the knock, Mandhana returned to form after two single digits in her last two outings. This was her fourth ton of the year.

Smriti Mandhana’s wicket triggered a middle-order collapse in the dead rubber between India and Australia. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma departed for 12 (22), 16 (11) and a three-ball duck, respectively. Earlier, Richa Ghosh perished for just two runs.

At the time of writing, the tourists were 201/6, with Minnu Mani and Arundhati Reddy at the crease. Ashleigh Gardner has been the pick of the bowlers, returning with three wickets so far.

Batting first, Australia posted 298/6. Annabel Sutherland top scored with 110 off 95, comprising four sixes and nine boundaries. Captain Tahlia McGrath and Ashleigh Gardner also chipped in with 56 (50) and 50 (64), respectively. Arundhati Reddy starred with the ball, returning with four wickets.

Australia have already taken a 2-0 unassailable lead in the three-game series. The hosts won the opening game by five wickets before registering a 122-run victory in the second ODI.
