[Watch] Smriti Mandhana looks distraught after Shikha Pandey removes her for 6 in WBBL 2024

Smriti Mandhana had a subdued debut for the Adelaide Strikers Women, scoring only six runs before being dismissed by fellow Indian and Brisbane Heat Women bowler Shikha Pandey. This happened in the 20th match of the Women's Big Bash League 2024 on Saturday, November 9, at The Gabba in Brisbane.

The dismissal came on the third ball of the third over. Smriti had hit a boundary off the second delivery but was caught out on the next. Shikha bowled a full delivery, and Mandhana went for a drive, only to send the ball straight into the bowler's hands. While Mandhana looked disappointed, Shikha was all smiles.

The left-hander managed six runs from as many balls. Smriti's dismissal left the Strikers at 12 for 2 after 2.3 overs.

Here’s a video of the dismissal:

At the time of writing, Adelaide were 69 for four after 12 overs, requiring 107 runs to win, with Madeline Penna (5) and Bridget Patterson (20) at the crease.

Jemimah Rodrigues shines with the bat for Brisbane Heat

Asked to bat first, Grace Harris gave Brisbane Heat a solid start, scoring 33 off 22 balls, with six boundaries and one six to her name. However, Georgia Redmayne (7) had a disappointing knock.

Jemimah Rodrigues, coming in at No. 3, was initially caught for 17 at fine leg but the delivery was called a no-ball, giving her a reprieve.

Alongside captain Jess Jonassen (32 off 21 balls), Jemimah put on 54 runs for the third wicket. The Indian international then flourished, scoring 61 off 40 balls, which included seven boundaries and one six.

Towards the end, Nadine de Klerk played a quick-fire cameo, finishing unbeaten on 23 off 10 balls, with four boundaries. Brisbane Heat ended their innings at 175 for six in 20 overs. Jemma Barsby was the standout bowler for Adelaide Strikers, taking two wickets.
