[Watch] Smriti Mandhana misses out on hat-trick of centuries, holes out to short fine for 90 in IND-W vs SA-W 3rd ODI

Smriti Mandhana missed out on a well-deserved hat-trick of centuries in the third and final ODI between India women and South Africa women at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, June 23. The left-hander holed out to short fine after scoring 90 runs off 83 balls, comprising 11 boundaries. Mandhana had slammed 117 and 136 in her first two outings against the Proteas in the ongoing series.

The dismissal came in the 31st over of India’s run chase. Nonkululeko Mlaba bowled a full-length ball on the leg stump and Mandhana attempted a sweep, only to get a top edge that flew straight down the throat of Ayabonga Khaka at the short fine region. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur gave a pat on her back as Mandhana walked back amidst thunderous applause from the Bengaluru crowd.

Smriti Mandhana finished the three-match ODI series with 343 runs at an average of 114.34. The 27-year-old would be keen to continue her sublime form in the one-off Test against the Proteas, which starts at M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on June 28.

Smriti Mandhana delivers again as India on course to register clean sweep against South Africa

Harmanpreet Kaur-led side are on the verge of completing a 3-0 clean sweep against South Africa in the three-match ODI series. At the time of writing, India were 185/3 after 35 overs while chasing 216, with captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues at the crease.

Opting to bat first, the Proteas put up 215/8 in 50 overs. Captain Laura Wolvaardt starred with the bat, scoring 61 runs off 57 balls, comprising seven boundaries. She also shared a 102-run partnership with Tazmin Brits for the opening wicket. The latter chipped in with 38 off 66 deliveries with the help of a six and two boundaries.

Nadine de Klerk and Mieke de Ridder contributed 26 each off 46 and 31 deliveries, respectively. Deepti Sharma and Arundhati Reddy picked up two wickets apiece for the Women in Blue, while Pooja Vastrakar and Shreyanka Patil shared one each.
