[Watch] Smriti Mandhana’s brilliant direct hit catches Bryony Smith short of her crease in The Hundred

India’s Smriti Mandhana produced a brilliant direct hit to run out Bryony Smith for a golden duck in The Hundred on Saturday, August 10. Southampton hosted the game between Southern Brave and Trent Rockets.

The dismissal came off the very first ball of Trent Rockets’ innings. Lauren Cheatle bowled a low full toss around off stump and Bryony guided it towards mid-on and took off for a quick single. Mandhana collected the ball and threw it onto the stumps in a flash to find Bryony short of her crease at the non-striker's end.

Sharing the video on X, The Hundred’s official handle wrote:

On the batting front, Smriti Mandhana has failed to deliver in her first three innings in the tournament this season. The left-hander returned with scores of 15, 0 and 2, respectively. She will be looking to make amends against Trent Rockets.

Mandhana had amassed 238 runs in nine matches with the aid of two 50s last year.

Smriti Mandhana’s Southern Brave rock bottom in The Hundred women’s competition

Southern Brave are currently rock-bottom with a solitary win in The Hundred women’s competition points table. They will be keen to continue their winning run after beating Oval Invincibles in the previous fixture. One of their games against Northern Superchargers had ended in a tie. A win would keep them alive in the race for the knockouts.

On the other hand, Trent Rockets have two wins in their first five matches. The Nat Sciver-Brunt-led side are fifth in the points table.

At the time of writing, Trent Rockets were 43/2 after 33 balls, with Nat Sciver-Brunt and Grace Scrivens at the crease. Natasha Wraith was the last batter to be dismissed, cleaned up by Lauren Cheatle.

Trent Rockets will next play against Birmingham Phoenix on August 12, while Southern Brave will play their last league game against Welsh Fire on August 14.
