[Watch] Smriti Mandhana takes stunning diving catch in WBBL 2024 against Perth Scorchers

Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana pulled off a brilliant catch for Adelaide Strikers Women in the 32nd match of the 2024 Women’s Big Bash League against Perth Scorchers Women. The game was held on Tuesday, November 19, at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide.

The stunning moment occurred on the first ball of the 15th over. Amanda-Jade Wellington bowled a flighted delivery on a good length to Carly Leeson, who tried to loft the ball on the front foot, but didn’t make perfect contact.

Positioned at mid-off, Mandhana quickly pivoted to her left, kept her eyes fixed on the ball, and leapt to snatch it out of the air, finishing off the catch with a dive. Leeson was dismissed for just one run off two balls, leaving the Scorchers struggling at 82 for seven after 14.1 overs.

Here’s a video of the dismissal:

Chasing 170, the Scorchers got off to a disappointing start, losing four wickets for just 17 runs. Skipper Sophie Devine (35 off 31) and Brooke Halliday (47 off 44) then combined for a 52-run partnership off 55 balls for the fifth wicket.

Towards the end, Alana King remained unbeaten on 29 off 19 balls, hitting three fours and one six. Despite their efforts, Perth Scorchers fell short by 30 runs. Megan Schutt was the standout bowler for the Strikers, claiming three wickets.
