[Watch] Shehan Jayasuriya takes a one-handed stunner in SOR vs SFU MLC 2024 clashÂ
Seattle Orcas player Shehan Jayasuriya took a stunning catch during the closing stages of their MLC 2024 clash against the San Francisco Unicorns at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Although the catch was a mere consolation as Orcas ended up losing the contest by six wickets with more than five overs to spare, it was an exceptional show of athleticism.
The Sri Lankan international was placed at short cover, with left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh given the 13th over of the innings. The right-handed Sanjay Krishnamurthy tried to go inside out over the off-side against a full delivery. He got a decent connection but could not get the desired elevation, bringing the fielder inside the circle into play.
Jayasuriya jumped full length and timed it to perfection to pluck the ball out of thin air. The ball stuck to his outstretched right hand, giving the Orcas their third wicket of the innings.
Have a look at the brilliant catch right here:
Shehan Jayasuriya had a sluggish outing with the bat, scoring 31 runs off 33 deliveries. He came to the crease inside the first over as both opening batters were dismissed for golden ducks.
Shehan Jayasuriya has 87 runs in three MLC 2024 matches as Seattle Orcas get eliminated
The mammoth loss to SFU confirmed the Seattle Orcas' elimination from the 2024 MLC. The runner-ups from the inaugural season have endured a disappointing campaign, winning only one match out of the first six in the season.
"Disappointing, we were in the final last year, this year we didn't bat well, not a lot of firepower. The bowlers were good and did what best they could do. A bit under par, maybe 15-20 runs short and that cost us in the end. We've been poor in this season, disappointing for the franchise and the owners," Orcas skipper Klaasen said after the loss to SFU.
The Heinrich Klaasen-led side have struggled to find the right combination, with shaky form also playing a huge role. They have one outing remaining despite their elimination as they are scheduled to face the Texas Super Kings on July 23.
As far as Jayasuriya is concerned, he has had a decent campaign in the middle order. His highlight of the tournament so far has arguably been an outrageous ramp shot off Haris Rauf in the reverse fixture against SFU earlier in the season.
