[Watch] Spectator invades ground and greets Virat Kohli on Day 2 of BGT 2024-25 4th Test

A spectator invaded the ground and came running off the stands to the field to greet Team India ace batter Virat Kohli before being escorted off the ground by the security guards on Day 2 (Friday, December 27) of the ongoing fourth India-Australia Test. What happened to the fan post the incident is yet to be known.

Fans running into Indian cricketers on the field is a rare occurrence these days due to the security measures and stadium bans in place. However, fans run to the field to meet their favorite stars such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah.

One such incident occurred at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. A fan sporting a Ukraine flag on the back ran onto the field and hugged Kohli. The security present at that time rushed onto the fielder quickly and handled the situation, escorting the fan off the ground.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who was fielding then, expressed his displeasure and looked disappointed by the incident. There was only a brief halt due to the incident, and play resumed shortly.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. The hosts posted 474 runs, with a century from Steve Smith (140 off 197) and half-centuries from Sam Konstas (60 off 65), Usman Khawaja (57 off 121) and Marnus Labuschagne (72 off 145).

Team India started their essay with the bat in hand but had a rude shock early on when skipper Rohit Sharma (3 off 5) was dismissed cheaply. Since then, KL Rahul and Yashavi Jaiswal are batting in the middle, with the score currently reading 35/1 after 10 overs. Team India will want to win this Test to bolster their chances of a third World Test Championship final appearance.
