[Watch] Spencer Johnson takes a brilliant diving catch to dismiss Laurie Evans in The Hundred 2024

Oval Invincibles pacer Spencer Johnson took a composed diving catch in his side's win over the Southern Brave in The Hundred 2024 at The Oval on Thursday, August 8. The Sam Billings-led side won the top-of-the-table clash by six wickets to take their points tally to 10 after playing six matches.

The Southern Brave were struggling against the in-form Oval Invincibles bowling unit as the Curran brothers ran riot with the new ball. The visitors were tottering at 31-3 close to the halfway stage of the innings and were in desperate need of a partnership.

However, the batters found it difficult to get going with the spin duo of Adam Zampa and Will Jacks coming into play. Laurie Evans tried to get a move on by attempting a sweep off the Australian leg-spinner. The right-handed batter only managed to get a top edge as the ball bounced a bit higher than expected.

Spencer Johnson ran to his left from his position at short fine leg and completed a dive in time to claim the catch. Evans had to depart after scoring only four runs off five deliveries.

The dismissal worsened the Southern Brave's cause as they were reduced to 31-4. A lone act by skipper James Vince and a set of cameos by the lower middle order guided the visitors to a score of 118-8.

Spencer Johnson bowled a tight spell with the ball, conceding only 17 runs off 20 deliveries

The left-arm pacer has not been among the wickets in the tournament so far but has been quite economical. He put in yet another commanding shift with the new ball by conceding only 17 runs off his 20 deliveries, with only two boundaries in his entire spell. Johnson has taken two wickets in five matches so far.

The Oval Invincibles approached the run chase with caution, scoring only 43 runs in the first half of the second innings. An unbeaten knock by Jordan Cox coupled with a cameo by the in-form Sam Curran meant that the hosts chased down the target with 15 balls to spare.
