Steven Taylor smashed a six that hit a New York security guard at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium during the 2024 T20 World Cup game between India and co-hosts USA on Wednesday (June 12). The guard didn’t keep his eyes on the ball and got hit in the chest. He looked hurt with the power hit.
The injury could’ve been serious, but many locals aren’t aware since they are not fully familiar with cricket. Interestingly, the guard didn’t protect himself since there’s a similarity between cricket and baseball shots.
The incident took place during the ninth over of the USA innings. Shivam Dube bowled a short delivery, and Taylor backed away and pulled it over mid-wicket as the ball sailed away for a 77-metre six.

Steven Taylor scored 24 runs off 30 balls with the help of two sixes. He was eventually cleaned up by Axar Patel in the 12th over, leaving the hosts in a spot of bother at 56/4 after 11.4 overs.
USA set a 111-run target for India in 2024 T20 World Cup match
A clinical bowling display helped India restrict the USA to 110/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Apart from Steven Taylor, Nitish Kumar starred with the bat, scoring 27 off 23 deliveries in an innings laced with one six and two boundaries. Corey Anderson, stand-in captain Aaron Jones, Harmeet Singh, and Shadley van Schalkwyk were the other batters to reach double digits.
Arshdeep Singh registered best-ever figures for India at the T20 World Cup, returning with figures of 4/9, while Hardik Pandya bagged two wickets.
India and USA are coming on the back of two consecutive wins in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma and Co. beat Ireland by eight wickets before registering a narrow six-run win over arch-rivals Pakistan. They will now be looking to register a hat-trick of wins in the mega ICC event.
Meanwhile, the USA beat Canada by seven wickets in their opening game before shocking Babar Azam and Co. with a five-run win in a Super Over thriller. They will now be keen to stun the Men in Blue.
