[Watch] Superstitious Rohit Sharma switches bails, casts a spell in viral video from IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test
India captain Rohit Sharma was seen in a superstitious mood during the first of the two Tests against Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, September 22. The 37-year-old was seen switching the bails towards the striker’s end and funnily casting his spell while sharing a laugh.
It can’t be confirmed whether the incident was from the first or second innings of the Bangladesh innings. Usually, Virat Kohli has been seen switching bails when India have failed to take wickets in the past.
As far as the match is concerned, Rohit Sharma & Co. registered a comprehensive 280-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test. He, however, failed to deliver with the bat, scoring 6 and 5 in his two innings.

Rohit Sharma lauds Rishabh Pant on his comeback Test, reserves special praise for PoTM Ravichandran Ashwin
Rohit Sharma lauded Rishabh Pant for his century in the comeback Test after having returned to competitive cricket earlier this year. The reaction came as Pant returned with scores of 39 and 109 in his two innings. On this, he said (via Cricbuzz):
“(On Pant's hundred) He's been through some really tough times. The way he has managed himself through those tough times was superb to watch. He came back in the IPL, followed by a very successful World Cup and this is the format he loves the most.”
“For us, it was never about what is he going to do with the bat, we always knew what he had with the bat and with the gloves as well. It was just about giving him the game time. Credit to him as well, he went on to play Duleep Trophy and got ready for this Test match and had an impact straightaway in the game” Sharma added.
Rohit Sharma also lauded Player of the Match Ravichandran Ashwin following his all-round performance in the first Test against Bangladesh. Notably, Ashwin scored 113 runs and bagged a six-wicket haul in the first and second innings, respectively. He said:
“(On Ashwin) He's next in line to talk to you, he's the right man to answer what he does. Every time we look up to him, he's always there for us whether with the bat or ball. I don't know if I speak here, it'll be enough of what he does for this team. Every time we see him come out and do the job, it's always so brilliant.”
The 37-year-old also credited the local lad for playing in the 2024 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), where Ashwin led Dindigul Dragons to their first-ever title in the T20 tournament. The India skipper added:
“He's never out of the game. The last competitive cricket he played was IPL and then he had some fun playing TNPL. We watched him bat up the order and that's what helped him as well to bat the way he did.”
Apart from Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin, Shubman Gill also scored an unbeaten 119 in the second innings against Bangladesh.
