[Watch] Suryansh Shedge smashes a flurry of sixes as Mumbai chase down 222 against Vidarbha in QF 4 of SMAT 2024-25
Young Mumbai batter Suryansh Shedge displayed brilliant form, blasting a flurry of sixes, in their quarterfinal match against Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25. The match was held on Wednesday, December 11, at the KSCA Cricket Ground in Alur.
Chasing a target of 222, Mumbai openers Prithvi Shaw (49 off 26 balls) and Ajinkya Rahane put on 83 runs for the first wicket in just 43 balls. However, skipper Shreyas Iyer (5) and Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav (9) were dismissed cheaply. Rahane was exceptional, scoring 84 off 45 balls, including 10 boundaries and three sixes.
With 60 runs required from the final four overs, Mumbai needed a big finish, with Shivam Dube and Suryansh Shedge at the crease. Shedge went on the attack in the 17th over, smashing three sixes and a boundary off Mandar Mahale.
Dube joined in the next over, hitting two sixes, as the game swung in Mumbai's favor. The 21-year-old Shedge then hit the winning six on the second ball of the final over.

Dube remained unbeaten on 37 off 22 balls, while Suryansh finished on 36* off 12 balls, hitting one four and four sixes, as Mumbai secured a six-wicket victory with four balls to spare.
Atharva Taide and Apoorv Wankhade shine with the bat for Vidarbha
Earlier in the match, after being asked to bat first, Vidarbha openers Atharva Taide and Karun Nair (26) put on 60 runs for the first wicket off 33 balls. Parth Rekhade had a disappointing outing, getting dismissed for one.
Apoorv Wankhade came in at No. 4 and partnered Taide for a crucial 81-run stand-off 48 balls for the third wicket. Wankhade scored 51 off 33 balls, while Taide finished with 66 off 41 balls.
Towards the end, Shubham Dubey played a brilliant cameo, remaining unbeaten on 43 off 19 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes. Vidarbha finished their innings at 221/6 after 20 overs.
