[Watch] Tanuja Kanwar dismisses UAE captain Esha Rohit Oza to get her first international wicket

Left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar dismissed United Arab Emirates Women’s captain Esha Rohit Oza to get her maiden international wicket during the Women’s Asia Cup at Dambulla on Sunday (July 21). After being asked to bat, India Women scored 201 runs in their allotted 20 overs. This was the first time the Women in Blue crossed the 200-run mark in T20 cricket.

Tanuja, who received her maiden cap from Renuka Singh earlier in the day, got her first wicket in her third over. It was the third ball of the 13th over when the left-arm spinner bowled a tossed-up delivery outside off-stump.

Esha shimmied down the ground to hit a drive but was completely beaten. Richa Ghosh made an easy stumping as Tanuja got her first international wicket. Rohit Oza’s wicket left her side at 76/4 after 12.3 overs.

Here’s a video of her dismissal:

Kavisha Egodage (40*) was the highest scorer for the UAE side, as they only managed to score 123 runs in their 20 overs, losing the match by 78 runs. It was the UAE's second consecutive loss in the tournament.

Tanuja conceded 14 runs in her spell of four overs and took one wicket. Deepti Sharma bagged two wickets for the Women in Blue.

Team India lost Smriti Mandhana (13) and Dayalan Hemalatha (2) early after being invited to bat first. But Shafali Verma (37 off 18 balls) assured that the Women in Blue scored more than 50 runs in the powerplay even though they lost quick wickets at the top of the order.

Later, captain Harmanpreet Kaur (66 off 47 balls) and keeper-batter Richa Ghosh (64* off 29 balls) were on fire as India Women finished at 201/5 in their 20 overs.

In response, the Women in Blue bowlers were brilliant as they won their second game of 2024 Asia Cup. India Women defeated Pakistan Women in their first game of the tournament. Chasing a target of 109, the Women in Blue faced no issues as they easily won the game by seven wickets.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s side will face Nepal in their last group-stage match on Tuesday, July 23.
