[Watch] Team India captain Rohit Sharma travels to Sri Lanka for the upcoming ODI seriesĀ
Team India captain Rohit Sharma was recently spotted at Mumbai Airport, leaving for Sri Lanka. He traveled to the island nation for the upcoming three-match ODI series. Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian side is currently taking on Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I series. The ODI leg of the tour will commence on Friday, August 2.
It will be Rohit's first appearance in ODIs since losing in the final of the World Cup against Australia on November 19 last year. He has only played in T20I and Test cricket after that heartbreaking loss. However, he will now return to the 50-over format with a renewed focus as India will be building towards the Champions Trophy, which is scheduled for early next year.
An Instagram user (@Pallav_Paliwal) shared a video to give fans a glimpse of Rohit Sharma at the Mumbai Airport. The World Cup-winning Indian captain could be seen in a casual shirt and trousers, entering the airport to travel to Sri Lanka.

"I like that they are playing the ODIs"- Ashish Nehra on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's participation in IND vs SL ODI series
Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra recently applauded the veteran duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for deciding to participate in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. He opined that they will get an opportunity to gel with the newly appointed head coach, Gautam Gambhir, ahead of tough assignments in the future. Speaking to Sports Tak on the matter, Nehra said:
"The good thing is, even though there is a chance that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli don't play in the major 50-over tournaments coming up but they are still there for this series in Sri Lanka. Gautam Gambhir has come as a new coach and the earlier they gel with him inside that dressing room environment, the better, regardless of whether they knew each other for many years before that or not. So I like that they are playing the ODIs."
Nehra felt that the presence of Rohit and Virat in the dressing room will also help the youngsters in the upcoming series. He continued:
"Many a times it happens that after a major tournament like the World Cup you would want to give youngsters more chances. India already have a good pool of players for white-ball cricket and so the more time these youngsters spend time with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the better it is for them."
