[Watch] Tim David takes outstanding catch to get rid of Jordan Cox in ENG vs AUS 2024 1st T20I
Australian cricketer Tim David pulled off a stunning catch in the first of three T20Is against England at the Utilita Bowl on Wednesday, September 11, in Southampton. The Singapore-born cricketer held on to the catch with his fingertips as Australia got a timely breakthrough.
The incident occurred in the fifth over of the run-chase sent down by Xavier Bartlett as debutant Jordan Cox hit the ball on the leg side. It seemed like it had the distance to clear the 28-year-old, but he put in a full-length dive while tracking the ball over his shoulders.
The third umpire had a look at it and decided that David's catch was clean. With Cox going strong at that stage, having hit three boundaries, the wicket was a crucial one for Australia.
Tim David registers golden duck but Australia make enough runs to take 1-0 lead
Meanwhile, Tim David had a forgettable match with the bat as he was dismissed by Liam Livingstone for a golden duck. Travis Head's fiery start, reaching his half-century off just 19 deliveries, went a long way in setting England 180 for victory. Nevertheless, the tourists were 118-2 at one stage and were looking to go beyond 200. Livingstone was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts with figures of 3-0-22-3.
For Australia, Sean Abbott was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3.2-0-28-3. Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa took two wickets each, while Bartlett, Cameron Green, and Marcus Stoinis snared one apiece.
The two sides will move on to Cardiff for the second T20I on Friday, September 13. However, Australia have an injury concern leading up to the game as Xavier Bartlett suffered a side strain. Left-arm seamer Ben Dwarshuis has been drafted into the squad for the subsequent ODI series.
