[Watch] Tom Alsop grabs one-handed stunner at short-leg for Sussex against Derbyshire in County Championship Division Two 2024

Sussex batter Tom Alsop wowed the viewers with a brilliant catch in the team's ongoing County Championship Division Two match against Derbyshire. The match is underway at County Ground in Hove.

In the 43rd over of Derbyshire's first innings, off-spinner Jack Carson dismissed the well-set Anuj Dal for 45 runs. The batter was undone by the extra bounce and ended up getting an inside edge that flew towards the short-leg region.

Derbyshire finished at 178/6 at stumps on Day 2. They still trail Sussex by 429 runs. Wayne Madsen remained unbeaten at 75 while Anuj Dal was the next-best performer with his 45-run knock. India's Jaydev Unadkat bagged three scalps, with Jack Carson finishing with two wickets on the second day.

Derbyshire won the toss and chose to field first. However, the decision backfired as Sussex registered an imposing total. The side declared their innings at 607/8.

Opening batter Daniel Hughes shone with the bat for Sussex, scoring 144 runs off 142 balls. Skipper John Simpson also completed his century in the innings, amassing 121 runs from 167 deliveries.

Jack Carson narrowly missed out on the three-figure mark, perishing after a useful 97-run knock. Tom Alsop also impressed with the bat, scoring 70 runs off 149 deliveries.

Alsop has been in fine form this season. With 689 runs from 17 innings at an average of 45.93, he is the second-highest run-getter for Sussex in the season.

Sussex are currently the table-toppers of the ongoing County Championship Divison Two. They have 158 points to their name, with five wins, three draws, and two losses.

Derbyshire, on the other hand, are languishing at the bottom of the standings with 103 points in their kitty. They have a solitary win so far in the tournament, three draws, and five defeats.
