[Watch] Travis Head and David Warner slam 3 sixes in Will Jacks' over in ENG vs AUS T20 World Cup 2024 match
Australian openers Travis Head and David Warner took Will Jacks to the cleaners in his first over, slamming him for 22 runs in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 clash against England in Barbados. The left-handers nailed three colossal sixes to lay down a platform for a healthy total.
The incident occurred only in the second over of the innings after Moeen Ali gave away only 3 runs in the opening over. Head slammed the first two balls for maximums, followed by a triple. With Warner coming on strike, he also belted one.
England captain Jos Buttler had won the toss and chose to field first, citing the wind factor. While the defending champions stuck with the same XI as fielded against Scotland, Australia made one change, bringing in Pat Cummins for Nathan Ellis.
England set to chase 202 against Australia in T20 World Cup clash
Moeen Ali and Jofra Archer gave their side some respite by dismissing David Warner and Travis Head, respectively. However, the opening partnership between the two explosive left-handers amounted to 70 in five overs.
Thereafter, Marsh (35) and Glenn Maxwell (25) continued the team's momentum by stitching a useful 65-run partnership. Marcus Stoinis also slammed a brisk 30 off 17 deliveries, while keeper-batter Matthew Wade stayed unbeaten on 17 off 10. Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers for England with figures of 2/44.
At the time of writing, England have made a solid start, garnering 40 runs off four overs, courtesy of Jos Buttler and Phil Salt.
England will look to secure their first victory, after suffering a washout against Scotland. Meanwhile, a win for Australia will almost seal their spot in the Super 8, as they started the T20 World Cup 2024 with a 39-run victory over Oman.
