[Watch] ‘Tumko kuch nahi pata hai’ – MS Dhoni shares hilarious story on his wife Sakshi schooling him on wide ball stumped out dismissal
Former India captain MS Dhoni recently shared a hilarious story with his wife Sakshi regarding the stumped-out dismissal. The 42-year-old revealed Sakshi once tried to school him about the rule, calling it ‘wrong’. He added that the conversation happened while watching a One Day International (ODI) game, leaving the audience in splits.
According to the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), rule 22.9 states:
“When Wide ball has been called, neither batter shall be out under any of the Laws except 35 (Hit wicket), 37 (Obstructing the field), 38 (Run out) or 39 (Stumped).”
In a video doing the rounds on X, MS Dhoni said:
“At home, we were watching a game. I think it was One Day International. Sakshi was also there. Usually, I and Sakshi don’t talk about cricket. The bowler bowled and it was a wide. The batsman stepped out and was stumped. So, of course, umpire generally takes review these days, let the third umpire will decide.”
“My wife started, ‘Out nahi hay (It’s not out)’. By the time she called it not out, the batsman started walking. She said, ‘You just see they will call him back. Wide ball pe stump ho hi nahi sakta hay (There can’t be stumped out dismissal on wide delivery).’ I said, no, no stumping happens on wide balls, [but] not on no-ball. She continued, ‘Tumko kuch nahi pata hai (You know nothing), you just wait the third umpire will call him back,’” he continued.
“By the time the conversation took place, the batter already reached the boundary line. And she’s like, ‘No, no, they have to call him.’ But finally, when he got out and the next batsman came at the crease, she’s like, ‘there’s something wrong,’” Dhoni added.
“I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I’m able to play” – MS Dhoni ahead of IPL 2025 retention
MS Dhoni, in a promotional event, dropped a massive hit on his availability for IPL 2025. He said (via ESPNcricinfo):
"I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I'm able to play. Like how during our childhood, we used to go out and play at 4[pm], just enjoying the game. But when you play professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy the game just like a game."
"So, what I want to do is, there are emotions and commitments, but I want to enjoy the game for the next few years," he added.
The BCCI and IPL recently amended their rules regarding uncapped player retention. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) can retain Dhoni as an uncapped player as the wicketkeeper-batter has completed five years of retirement from international cricket.
Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, and Matheesha Pathirana are likely to be the three other retentions. The Super Kings might use Right to Match (RTM) for Shivam Dube.
