[Watch] Venkatesh Iyer plucks a stunner to see the back of Faf Du Plessis in KKR vs RCB IPL 2024 match
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer pulled off a stunning catch to see the back of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis in the IPL 2024 clash. The hosts got their second breakthrough of the powerplay, with leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy getting his first of the innings.
The dismissal occurred in the fourth over of the innings as Shreyas Iyer introduced Chakravarthy to bowl his first of the innings. Du Plessis looked to hack a flatter delivery down the ground, but failed to get a good part of the bat. Iyer, stationed at mid-on, took a stunning diving catch and held his arms aloft in celebration as Faf departed for seven runs.
Harshit Rana had earlier got the wicket of Virat Kohli, who was visibly unhappy, given he thought it was a no-ball. The former RCB skipper stormed off angrily after 18 runs and smashed the dustbin on the way.
Exploits from Phil Salt and Shreyas Iyer propel KKR to a healthy total after losing the toss
Meanwhile, the Knight Riders made the most of their 20 overs despite losing the toss as Phil Salt and Shreyas Iyer featured with starring performances. Salt made 48 off 14 deliveries while the skipper clobbered a 36-ball half-century.
Rinku Singh, Andre Russell and Ramandeep Singh also dished out some massive hits towards the end to take the two-time champions to 222 in 20 overs. Green was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-0-35-2.
The visiting side triggered three changes to their side, bringing in Cameron Green, Mohammed Siraj, and Karn Sharma for Reece Topley, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Saurav Chauhan. Both RCB and KKR are coming off losses to the SunRisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively.
The Royal Challengers will be especially looking for a win after emerging victorious only once so far in seven matches. The Knight Riders, meanwhile, have concerns around their bowling after failing to defend 223 against the Royals.
