[Watch] Virat Kohli dismissed nicking outside the off stump yet again in BGT 2024-25 3rd Test

Virat Kohli perished early again while poking outside off stump on Day 3 of the third Test against Australia in Brisbane on Monday, December 16. The right-handed batter departed for three runs off 16 balls to leave the tourists reeling at 3/22 in the first innings in response to Australia's 445.

The dismissal came in the eighth over of India's innings. Josh Hazlewood bowled a pitched-up delivery outside off stump that straightened after pitching. Kohli went chasing after the ball but only managed a faint edge before wicketkeeper Alex Carey completed a regulation catch.

It was a typical Kohli dismissal. He has departed 43 times caught behind, which accounts for over 20 percent of his Test dismissals.

Virat Kohli has now looked clueless in four out of his five innings in the BGT 2024-25 series, departing for scores of 5, 7, 11, and 3 (today). He, however, smashed an unbeaten 100 in Perth, where India won by 295 runs.

This was the second instance of Hazlewood removing Kohli cheaply despite missing the second Test due to an injury. He has been dismissed similarly on all four occasions in the series.

"Doesn’t know where his fourth stump is" - Matthew Hayden on Virat Kohli's downfall

Former Australia batter Matthew Hayden reckoned that Virat Kohli is unaware of his off stump, which has led to his downfall in Tests. He told Star Sports during the second Test (via CricToday):

“He is stuck in his mind and doesn’t know where his fourth stump is. This was not the case when he played on previous tours in Australia. The ball by Scott Boland was at the fifth stump line, and he could have left it easily, but the doubt in his mind is making him play these deliveries."
When you are not sure and don’t know what needs to be done, you end up losing your wicket. The wickets weren’t easy for the batters in the first two Tests, but to score runs, you should be 100 percent sure of your off stump," he added.
