Virat Kohli announced his T20I retirement following the 2024 T20 World Cup final

Virat Kohli's form came under the scanner as he failed to make a significant impact in the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, the seasoned campaigner turned things around when it mattered the most, playing a clutch knock in the final against South Africa.

After electing to bat first in the summit clash, the Men in Blue were in deep trouble, with Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav perishing within the powerplay overs. Kohli showcased tremendous composure under pressure, notching up a fine half-century.

The opening batter chalked up 76 runs off 59 balls. Axar Patel and Shivam Dube also chipped in with crucial contributions, scoring 47 and 27, respectively, helping India register a 176-run total.

South Africa gave India a tough fight in the run chase but ultimately failed to cross the finish line. The Proteas finished at 169/8 in 20 overs, suffering a heartbreaking seven-run loss. Hardik Pandya claimed three wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh took two scalps apiece.

Virat Kohli was adjudged the Man of the Match for his batting exploits. While collecting the award, the 35-year-old announced his retirement from T20Is.
