[Watch] Virat Kohli off to Indore for IND vs AFG 2nd T20I

Virat Kohli left from Mumbai for Indore for the upcoming second T20I between India and Afghanistan at the Holkar Cricket Stadium on Sunday, January 14. The star batter had missed out on the opening game due to personal reasons.

In a video shared on X, Kohli could be seen at the airport for his flight to Indore. Watch:

Virat Kohli is set to play his first T20I after the 2022 T20 World Cup, where he emerged as the leading run-scorer. The 35-year-old is also the leading run-getter in T20Is, scoring 4,008 runs in 107 innings, with the help of a century and 37 fifties.

The former India captain was recently seen in action during the two-match Test series, where he emerged as the top run-scorer for India, with 172 runs in four innings.

“India will need the experience of Rohit and Kohli” – Suresh Raina on India squad for 2024 T20 World Cup

Former India cricketer Suresh Raina reckons selectors have made the right move to include regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in T20Is ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup. He recently told Jio Cinema:

“If you look at the World Cup venues (in the USA and the West Indies), the wickets will be a bit tricky. India will need the experience of Rohit and Kohli there. Kohli is about to make 12,000 runs in T20 cricket. So, their presence will boost India’s batting.”

Raina continued:

“I think Kohli should bat at No. 3. His experience will bring in some solidity, especially in the challenging pitches in the US and the Caribbean. There are fearless young cricketers like Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, or Shubman Gill but Rohit and Kohli will give the unit a lot of solidity. Their presence is very important when we chase a target, especially in a high-pressure event like the World Cup.”

Like Virat Kohli, Rohit is also on the list of most runs in T20Is, with 3,853 runs in 141 innings, with four tons and 29 half-centuries.

India are currently leading the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan 1-0. The Men in Blue won the opening game by six wickets, thanks to Shivam Dube’s all-round performance. Chasing 159, the left-handed batter scored an unbeaten 60 off 40 balls, while finishing up with figures of 1/9 in two overs.
