Veteran Indian batter Virat Kohli played a flawless reverse sweep to hit a boundary off Nathan Lyon on Day 3 of the ongoing first Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth Stadium on Sunday, November 24.

The key moment came on the third ball of the 132nd over in India’s second innings. Lyon bowled a full delivery outside off stump, and Kohli executed a superb reverse sweep, sending the ball past the slip fielder for a boundary.

After a tough outing in the first innings, where he was dismissed for just five, Kohli bounced back in the second innings with a masterful knock, bringing up his 30th Test century. He remained unbeaten on 100 off 143 balls, including eight boundaries and two sixes.


Centuries from Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal help India set a daunting target of 534 runs

After taking a crucial 46-run lead in the first innings, India's opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were outstanding, forging a 201-run partnership off 383 balls—the highest ever by an Indian opening pair on Australian soil.

Rahul scored a solid 77 off 176 balls before being dismissed, while Devdutt Padikkal contributed 25. Jaiswal, in fine form, brought up his fourth Test century, making 161 off 297 balls, including 15 boundaries and three sixes. However, Rishabh Pant (1) and Dhruv Jurel (1) were dismissed cheaply.

Virat Kohli then took control, scoring a brisk 50 off 94 balls, and continued to anchor the innings, adding 89 runs with Washington Sundar (29) for the sixth wicket.

Nitish Kumar Reddy came in and played aggressively, finishing on 38* off 27 balls, with three fours and two sixes. Meanwhile, Kohli reached his 30th Test century, remaining unbeaten on 100 off 143 balls as India declared their second innings at 487/6, setting a massive target of 534 runs.
