[Watch] Virat Kohli pumped up after claiming catch to send Sunil Narine back for just 10 runs in KKR vs RCB IPL 2024 clashÂ
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) explosive all-rounder Sunil Narine could not impose himself on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bowling unit as he perished for 10 runs off 15 deliveries at Eden Gardens on Sunday.
RCB's new ball bowlers came out with a plan to contain the opening batter. Mohammed Siraj and Yash Dayal bowled very tight lines, giving the in-form player absolutely no room to work with. Their plan's effect was clearly on show as it took Narine eight deliveries to get off the mark.
Narine tried to find some rhythm in the powerplay by scoring a couple of boundaries, but Yash Dayal ultimately got the better of him with a well-executed back-of-the-hand delivery. The southpaw tried to take on the long-off boundary, but he could not work with the lack of pace on the ball. Kohli ended up taking a comfortable catch and let out a roar to mark the breakthrough.
Have a look at the dismissal right here:
Sunil Narine departed with a strike rate of only 66.67 and a couple of boundaries to his name. His dismissal left KKR stranded at 66/2 in the sixth over.
KKR trying to rebuild after late dismissals in the powerplay phase including Narine's
KKR were off to yet another flying start in the powerplay courtesy of Phil Salt's explosive innings. The Englishman was close to recording one of the fastest IPL fifties but was dismissed for 48 runs off 14 deliveries. He ensured KKR made the most of the powerplay phase as Sunil Narine struggled at the other end.
KKR lost two wickets in the final over of the powerplay. Narine was dismissed off the second ball by Yash Dayal, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi had to depart off the last ball after a stunning catch by Cameron Green.
Sunil Narine missed out on the chance to make a serious stride in the Orange Cap race with his poor outing against RCB. The opening batter had stormed into the top five in the rankings following his ton against the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Despite not being among the runs with the bat, Narine can still make an impact with the ball in the second innings.
