[Watch] Virat Kohli records 5-ball duck as Tim David takes an excellent running catch in IND vs AUS 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 clash

Team India's opening batter Virat Kohli was dismissed for a five-ball duck in the crucial 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 contest against Australia. The ace player was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood in the second over of the innings in St.Lucia on Monday, June 24.

The Men in Blue were put into bat first by Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh. Kohli closed out the first over by Mitchell Starc with a couple of dot balls and was on strike against Hazlewood from the other end. The right-handed batter could not find a path to open his account as the pacer kept things tight.

Deviating from his usual length deliveries outside the off stump, Hazlewood surprised Kohli with a bouncer. The right-handed batter latched onto the shot, hoping to pull it over the infield. But, he could only get a top edge to the right of mid-on towards the midwicket region.

Tim David ran approximately 28 meters to make a difficult catch look easy to hand Australia the early breakthrough. Have a look at the dismissal right here:

This marks Virat Kohli's fourth outing in the 2024 T20 World Cup where he failed to record double figures. This also marks the first time that he has been dismissed by Josh Hazlewood in the shortest format.

Team India unfazed by Kohli's dismissal as Rohit Sharma takes on Mitchell Starc

Kohli's dismissal left India at 6/1 in the second over. The new batter, Rishabh Pant, negotiated the remainder of the over before Rohit Sharma went berserk. The Indian skipper smashed four sixes off Mitchell Starc as a total of 29 runs came in the third over.

As of writing, the Men in Blue are placed at 35/1 after three overs, with Rohit Sharma firmly in charge of the proceedings against Australia's new ball attack.

The ongoing clash is a must-win affair for Australia, who are coming off a loss to Afghanistan in the Super 8 stage. The Men in Yellow are currently ahead in the points table based on net run-rate, but the final Super 8 encounter between Afghanistan and Bangladesh will also have a huge say in the proceedings.
