[Watch] Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma hold India's T20 World Cup 2024 trophy aloft during victory parade

Team India stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli held the trophy aloft amid the T20 World Cup victory parade in Mumbai on Thursday, July 4. A massive number of fans were gathered to acknowledge the newly-crowned champions. The star duo was all smiles looking at the crowd as the Men in Blue were on their way to the Wankhede Stadium.

Both Rohit and Kohli have been instrumental in their side's second T20 World Cup victory, thereby also breaking their 11-year ICC title drought. The skipper finished as the second highest run-getter in the multi-nation event with 257 runs alongside a best of 92 against Australia. Kohli, meanwhile, struggled throughout the tournament but came to the fore in the final against South Africa with a 58-ball 76.

Kohli's innings propelled their side to 176 and it eventually culminated in a seven-run win for the sub-continent nation in the final on June 29. The star pair also retired from T20I cricket following the final. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya were quite emotional after the triumph, given India had suffered several heartbreaks over the years.

It was Rohit's first ICC trophy victory as captain. Rahul Dravid also left his position as coach after the tournament.

While the final of the showpiece event was on June 29, the Men in Blue had to stay back in Barbados for three more days. This is due to the lack of transportation due to the hurricane on the Island. Nevertheless, the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah arranged a special flight for the national team to get back home on July 3.

After landing in Delhi from Barbados Thursday morning, they went to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He had sent the team a congratulatory message already immediately following their win in Barbados.

Meanwhile, for the upcoming five-game T20 series against Zimbabwe, star players have been rested, with the youngsters being given a chance.
