[Watch] When Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma shared a heartwarming hug before their last walk out together as T20I openers

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had probably given a sign before the start of India's T20 World Cup final against South Africa that it was going to be their final T20I for the Men in Blue. The two openers walked out to the middle and before facing the first ball, Kohli and Rohit were seen sharing a slight hug, something they probably hadn't done in the preceding games.

Here's the video of the two Indian stalwarts sharing a rare emotional moment:

Virat Kohli made it a memorable farewell with a sensational knock of 76 off just 59 balls, helping India reach 176/7 in their 20 overs. That proved to be enough as the Men in Blue clinched the T20 World Cup by beating the Proteas by seven runs.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma announced their T20I retirements immediately after the T20 World Cup win

After receiving the Player of the Match award, Virat Kohli immediately announced that he had played his final T20 game for India and that he wanted to make way for the younger generation to take it forward in the shortest format.

Here's what he told the host broadcaster in the post-match presentation:

"This was my last T20 World Cup, this is exactly what we wanted to achieve. This was my last T20 game playing for India. We wanted to lift that cup. Yes I have (made the announcement), this was an open secret. Wasn't something that I was not going to announce even if we had lost.
"Time for the next generation to take the T20 game forward and do wonders as we have seen them do in the IPL. I have no doubts that they will keep the flag waving high and take this team further from here now."

Speaking to the reporters in the post-match press conference, Indian captain Rohit Sharma also announced his T20I retirement, shedding light on why he felt it was the highest point possible to bid adieu from the format.
