[Watch] Virat Kohli doesn't take review on LBW call, replays show he edged it in 1st IND vs BAN 2024 Test

The first India-Bangladesh Test ended horribly for Virat Kohli, with the senior right-hander not realizing that he had edged the ball and opting against a review of the on-field LBW call against Mehidy Hasan Miraz in Chennai on Friday.

It happened on the second ball of the 20th over in the third innings of the Test. Left-arm spinner Mehidy threw it full and straight to Kohli, who tried to whip it against the turn on the leg-side but the ball sneaked in to hit him on the pads.

He went to discuss reviewing it with his partner, Shubman Gill but decided to walk off eventually. Replays later showed a clear spike when the ball went past his inside edge, which, if reviewed, would have been enough to overturn the call.

Here's a snapshot of the inside edge, as later revealed:

That was quite a faint spike on UltraEdge which means the edge was a thin one. Kohli and Gill never seemed to consider that and only went after the trajectory of the ball, which, seemed to suggest that it was going to hit flush on the stumps.

The team dressing room's reaction to the replay was priceless -- part frustration and part dismay at the bat luck for the number four batter.

The wicket wasn't detrimental to India's strong position in the Test but the team would have loved for Kohli to make it big when the pressure was at its lowest. He was looking good, too, having hit two boundaries, with one of them coming just before the wicket; but he had to walk back for an underwhelming 17 (37).

Kohli the last wicket to fall on Day 2, India end the day at 81/3

India didn't lose any more wickets after the former captain. Rishabh Pant came out to replace him at the crease with all guns blazing, smashing a four and a six to reach 12 (13) and Gill steadily moved to 33 (64) at the other end. The hosts led by 308 runs with three days of action yet to come in the game.
