[Watch] Virat Kohli takes splendid diving catch in practice ahead of IND vs NZ 2024 1st Test

Team India's ace batter Virat Kohli will be seen in action in the team's upcoming three-match home Test series against New Zealand. The series begins with the Test series opener in Bengaluru from Wednesday, October 16.

Ahead of the opening encounter, Kohli took some slip catches during a practice session at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. One of the former India captain's fan clubs shared a video on the microblogging platform X, in which the 35-year-old can be seen plucking a low diving catch.

Virat Kohli struggled to get going in the Test series opener against Bangladesh last month, registering scores of 6 and 17. He did have a better outing in the subsequent fixture, scoring a quick-fire 47-run knock in the first innings and remaining unbeaten on 29 in the run chase.

The veteran batter will be itching to regain his mojo ahead of the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. His last Test century came in July 2023 against West Indies and he has failed to cross the 50-run mark in his last six Test innings.

"I'm sure that he will be hungry to get runs in this series " - Gautam Gambhir on Virat Kohli

Team India's head coach Gautam Gambhir recently stated that Virat Kohli's hunger for runs is still the same as it was during his debut. He mentioned that the batter would be keen to get going in the upcoming series against New Zealand and Australia.

Pointing out that Kohli has the ability to be consistent when he is on song, Gambhir said during a press conference ahead of the Test series opener against New Zealand:

"Virat has always been very clear that he is a world-class cricketer. He has performed for such a long period of time and he is as hungry as when he made his debut. I remember opening the batting with him when he made his debut in Sri Lanka. To now, his hunger is always there and is already there.
"And that is what makes him a world class cricketer and I am sure that he will be hungry to get runs in this series and probably moving forward to Australia as well. And we know that once he gets into those runs scoring how consistent can he be."

It is worth mentioning that Virat Kohli is just 53 runs away from becoming the fourth Indian batter to cross the 9000-run mark in Test cricket.
