[Watch] Virat Kohli gets out to a full toss off Mitchell Santner for just 1 in 2nd IND vs NZ 2024 Test
Team India batter Virat Kohli was dismissed in an unusual fashion after misjudging a full delivery by Mitchell Santner in the first innings of the second Test against New Zealand at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune. The right-handed batter could only chip in with one run on Day 2 (Friday, October 25) of the must-win clash.
Kohli came into bat after Santner had trapped Shubman Gill LBW in the 22nd over. Coming into the clash after a solid fifty in the second innings of the series opener, India needed Kohli to stay long on a tricky surface.
Kohli was up against the left-arm spin pair of Mitchell Santner and Ajaz Patel bowling in full flow. He got off the mark with a single, but could not add more after being dismissed in the next over.
Santner bowled a delivery with flight on the middle stump, which could have been played as a low full toss had Kohli played in a conventional manner. However, the right-handed batter uncharacteristically lunged out and tried to play across the line, missing contact with the ball altogether.
Virat Kohli got into an ugly shape while playing the stroke, trying to make contact with the ball when it was right under him. The ball ended up sneaking past the massive gap and rattled the stumps.

India have begun Day 2 on a shaky note from their overnight score of 16-1. Gill looked shaky in his defense, and that eventually led to his dismissal. India are struggling to match New Zealand's first-innings tally.
India crumbling in the first session as Yashasvi Jaiswal departs after Virat Kohli
The Men in Blue needed to have a solid first session to have some command in the game. However, they have struggled against the New Zealand spinners on a pitch that has started to act up a lot more compared to the opening day.
Shortly after Virat Kohli's dismissal, Glenn Phillips was introduced into the attack, keeping the two left-handed batters in mind. The move paid off straightaway as the all-rounder struck off his fourth delivery to dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The opening batter edged one to slip, where Daryl Mitchell took a low, sharp catch to reduce India to 70-4 in the first innings.
